Media Matters, a left-wing activist group that receives funding from George Soros, is behind efforts to pressure advertisers to abandon Fox New’s biggest conservative, Sean Hannity.
Sean Hannity’s non-stop support of President Donald Trump made him the focus of Media Matters’ next campaign target.
Media Matters famously led the charge against former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, who said attacks against him were about, “destroying voices that the far left and the organized left wing cabal doesn’t like.”
According to its website, Media Matters is urging its progressive far-left supporters to help them “Stop Sean Hannity.”
Front and center on the Media Matters homepage, the radical group encourages supporters to “take action” by signing a petition, which will be sent to Sean Hannity’s advertisers.
“Sean Hannity has a long record of right-wing chicanery, lies, and vitriol. But he has morphed into something more dangerous than just a partisan hack — he’s been exposed as a full-blown propagandist who conspires with the Trump administration to spread fabricated stories, smear detractors, and undercut the rule of law,” the Media Matters site claims.
The Soros-funded group is keeping an up-to-date list of Sean Hannity’s advertisers, and claim that those advertisers that do not run away as fast as they can will get burned. In other words, there will be a price to pay if they continue to advertise on Hannity’s programs.
According to The Daily Caller, a mass email sent by Media Matters on Friday reads:
“Today, Media Matters is launching an effort to encourage Hannity’s sponsors to stop financially supporting his propaganda. At this point, if a company is sponsoring Sean Hannity’s show, it’s essentially supporting a Trump propaganda operation.”
The email directs readers to their petition page.
Aside from their email campaign, Media Matters is using social media to spread their agenda, insisting supporters be outraged and unite against Hannity.
In May, Media Matters targeted Sean Hannity’s advertisers, following his coverage of the murdered DNC staffer Seth Rich. The campaign was somewhat successful, in that USAA, an insurance company for members of the military and their families, pulled their ads from “Hannity,” claiming his show was based on opinion.
Conservative activists retaliated by targeting advertisers for MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes and Lawrence O’Donnell, including USAA. They pointed out that if Hannity is an opinion news, the others were, too.
After USAA pulled ads from all shows, they eventually reinstated all advertising.
Media Matters is basically in the business of discrediting Fox News. Combing the Media Matters website shows one anti-Fox News story after the next.
Soros, who has reportedly given more than $1M to Media Matters, has not commented on the movement to hurt Hannity in the wallet.
